Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Powder – Product Love

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Powder

We all know that “happiness” is hard to manufacture but when you hear a claim such as a face powder giving you a sense of euphoria, you can’t help but be curious.  I have to admit that I was drawn to the claim and had to try Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Powder.  A face powder the evens out skin tone, highlights and leaves you with a happy feeling is a lot to accomplish in one compact.

Floating heart motif does add a bit of bubbly charisma to the product.

Product Profile:

  • Retail price:  $13.95  (wait for a drugstore sale or pick up this set.)
  • Comes in 4 shades: Translucent, Beige (my color), Light Bronzer and Bronzer.
  • Adorable hot pink compact with hearts imprinted into the product. Each heart is a varying shade which can be used swirled together with a fluffy face brush.
  • One pink heart in the compact can be used alone on the apples of the cheek to add an extra pop of color.
  • Mirror and two tone travel brush are included in the bottom half of the compact.

The mirror is a decent size for touch ups and the two-tone travel brush adds to the pink theme of this product.

The Claim (from their website):

  •  Happy Boost Blend featuring Happy Skin and Euphoryl, natural plant extracts which have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of Endorphins.
  • The sweet scent of Violet rounds out the experience by providing a feeling of joy each time you apply the powder.

 The Review:

The scent was delightful and I love the smell of violet. But did it infuse me with a feeling of happiness or joy? Sure, when I have time to sit back and notice the smell as I apply it.  But on mornings when I’m in a rush and applying my makeup at lightning speed, there is no time to stop and smell the powder.

I have owned this compact for about a year now and noticed that the smell disappeared altogether from the compact after the first month of use so the happiness scent is fleeting.

This has been a reliable highlighter.  The texture is silky smooth and the shimmer is finely milled so I never look like a strobe light when I apply it all over.  Top the apples of your cheeks with the bright pink heart and this product easily achieves two effects. I wish the pink heart was bigger though because most of my blush brushes are too big to target that little heart for concentrated color.

My middle finger is a swipe of all the shades together. My ring finger is just the pink heart which has impressive pigmentation on its own.

One trick I really like is applying the pink powder along the inner corner of my eye and draw it down a bit. It helps diffuse the darkness there without having to cake on concealer.  If you don’t want to wait for a sale to pick this up and give it a try, I would order this set from Amazon which includes a lipstick for a couple dollars less than the powder alone!

This multi-purpose powder has earned its space in my makeup bag lately.  What do you think of this feminine face powder? Let me know you thoughts below.   🙂

New Year 2016: My One and Only Resolution

Do What You Love, Love What You Do - Resolution

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had an awesome holiday filled with ridiculously good food, a spiked beverage or two, and fun times with family and friends.  This month has been crazy busy and I was definitely off my game with Christmas shopping but I managed to get it all done in time.  Our first Christmas in our new home was quiet and laid back. Just how I like it.

There was no shortage of chocolate and cookies which, to be honest, if all I got for Christmas was chocolate I would write that off as a great Christmas.

2016: Homemade chocolate chip cookies

No Christmas is complete without some homemade chocolate chip cookies

One of my favorite gifts this year was made by hand from my husband. He knew I loved nail polish so he made me a nail polish rack to properly display my collection, complete with a chevron pattern background.  What?!

To say I was blown away is an understatement! My DIY gift for him did not involve the use of a table saw or even a sketch up diagram like the gift he made me so he clearly out did me on the Christmas gift exchange this year.

He definitely knows me well. A handmade nail polish rack is DIY awesomeness!

Oh and the three new Essie nail polishes to round out his homemade gift was definitely an added bonus!  The shades were:

I can’t wait to start using the green shades since it is my favorite color but I opted for “Master  Plan” first.

Essie Master Plan

A “cozy” winter neutral that will definitely stay in rotation this season.

New Years Eve was spent with close friends and family. As the champagne poured and the selfies were taken around the room, I started thinking about my resolution for the coming year.  It is a habit we are all accustomed to:

  • Think of resolutions for the new year.
  • Try to follow through on them.
  • Fail.
  • Start again next year and hope for better results.

This year is a bit different for me however.  For the first time in a long time I know exactly what I want to do for the new year and I am actually excited about it.  It is only one resolution and it has nothing to do with makeup or beauty, but it is a pretty important goal and I want to share it with you all.

My One and Only Resolution

It came to me on Christmas Day.  One of the gifts my husband gave me this year was an unbelievably soft night shirt that had an inspirational quote on it:

Do What You Love, Love What You Do

I’ve felt stuck professionally the past couple of years and have been wondering whether I was in the right place in my life so he decided to get me something to inspire me to stay positive. It’s not the first time I ever saw this inspirational quote but on Christmas Day I stared down at the shirt and actually had a reaction to it.  As I recited the phrase to myself the first thought that popped into my mind was “I want to code.”

Whoa!  I got goosebumps! I mean you hear about all of those tests where they ask you to say the first thing that pops into your mind when you look at a picture or hear a word but you don’t expect it to just happen at a random moment like on Christmas day before you had your morning cup of coffee.

Growing up, I fell into the group of people who never knew what to be when they reached adulthood. I mean a famous musician of course but second to that, I had no clue what kind of work I really wanted to do.  I watched as all of my friends went off to college pursuing their clearly devised goals and I was left behind without a clue.

I decided something had to be done and for the past couple of years, I really pushed myself to explore as many avenues as I could, researching all types of career options to see what sparked my interest and what played up my strengths.  While I searched all year to find my fit, and prepared for another year continuing that search, a simple quote on a shirt that I wasn’t expecting to receive spoke to me as if to say:  “You know the answer stupid! Now go!”

I’ve dabbled with coding in the past but never really dived into it like I did this past year. I find myself pouring over lines of code and get so much satisfaction when I figure out a problem I was stuck on for hours. I’ve never felt this kind of passion for something, the hunger to learn more!

My resolution is already in full swing as I am scheduled to take some classes in 2016 and have been studying at home by following the “Front End Web Developer” track over at Treehouse.  I’ve even joined my local chapter of Girl Develop It to meet like-minded ladies who share the same passion I have found.  I’m ready to cultivate a productive 2016 with my one goal in mind.

What are your resolutions for the new year? If you are a fellow lady coder, what books or courses have you found helpful in your journey? I would love to hear about your goals so do share them with me!  I hope you all have a great new year!

Talk to you soon!
